New Moon in Taurus

The fertile, dark soil of the New Moon in Taurus on 27 April is rich with potential for what can grow, bloom, and become fruitful from the seeds you plant. The immense vortex of change rippling through the astrological cycles of 2025 and 2026 is just getting started, and the first few months of 2025 contained a particularly chaotic mix that has corresponded with fast moving currents of change more supportive for dissolving the ways things have been than gaining traction and full momentum while initiating new movements. There’s been a need to move with the rushing pace of the celestial river and navigate its winding, snakelike path, finding meaning and realization in the space between how things have been and how things are transmuting. The Taurus New Moon will initiate a lunar cycle that will support integrating all the realizations and understanding gained in recent months into more solid plans for growth and development that will enable productive results.

In contrast to the past few months shaped by Mars retrograde, Venus retrograde, Mercury retrograde, and two powerful eclipses, all of the planets are moving direct at the time of the Taurus New Moon and the next couple of lunar cycles that take us through May and June have much more supportive astrological alignments for effectively cultivating longterm growth. The Taurus New Moon is an ideal time to get clear about what you want and desire, learning lessons from what hasn’t been working in recent months or how any anxieties, fears, tests or challenges have ultimately put you in touch with deeper parts of your soul, your purpose, and your resilient character. This is a lunar cycle to get to work and make detailed plans, creating shorter term goals that lead to longer term goals, acquiring the tools and resources you need, and making it happen.

Taurus is the exaltation of the Moon and the earthy domicile of Venus, zodiacal terrain of fertile fields potent for generating creative forms and nurturing stable and steady growth. While the fixed nature of Taurus can make it more resistant to change and becoming overly attached to stagnant routines, the emancipatory influence of Uranus in Taurus since 2018 has shaken the ground beneath the Bull and has led to a radical reshaping of your relationship with Taurus. Part of the great change coming in 2025 and 2026 relates to the fact that Uranus will be leaving Taurus to enter the whirling multiplicity of Gemini, and this also means that the New Moon in Taurus on 27 April 2025 will be our final lunation in Taurus to occur with Uranus also in the sign of the Bull until the 22nd Century. After the Moon in Taurus waxes into her first crescent light on 28 April she will form a conjunction with Uranus, amplifying the potential for revelations that can lead to creative solutions and innovative ideas. Moreover, the upcoming Full Moon in Scorpio on 12 May will further activate Uranus in Taurus by forming an opposition with the Promethean planet. The powerful shaping influence of Uranus upon the forthcoming lunar cycle will change the trajectory of events in unexpected ways, but as long as we can flexibly shift plans as needed it will also amplify the potential to help us break free from recent limitations and constraints.

The biggest astrological factor involved in the bending of reality, shattering of previous collective dorms, and dissolution of the way things have been has been the Saturn and Neptune cycle coming to an end, with Saturn less than two and a half degrees away from Neptune when the Sun and Moon unite in Taurus on 27 April. Within the forthcoming lunar cycle, Saturn will leave Pisces to enter Aries on 24 May, further intensifying their impact as they approach a near conjunction in July. When Saturn and Neptune come together like they will in 2025 and 2026, it can personally and collectively feel like an old way of life is dying to make way for a new era of fundamental change. When Saturn and Neptune unite our idealistic dreams meet hard reality and our illusions become exposed. Although the corresponding dissolution of old forms of security can be disorienting and provoke fears of uncertainty, the conjunction of Saturn and Neptune brings opportunities to reshape our reality and profoundly alter the narrative of our life in more fulfilling ways. Due to the presence of Venus moving in between Saturn and Neptune, the Taurus New Moon will bring opportunities to reorient to the changes underway.

The lord of the lunation is Venus in her exaltation of Pisces, with the Taurus new Moon applying toward a supportive sextile with the star of Aphrodite that will become exact on 29 April as the crescent light of the Moon begins to increase. One of the major reasons the Taurus New Moon can bring restoration regarding recent tribulations is that Venus is finally separating away from Saturn in Pisces after undergoing a long passage of forming three conjunctions with Saturn since January. Venus first formed a conjunction with Saturn in Pisces on 18 January while direct as an Evening Star, again on 7 April while retrograde and near the beginning of her visible Morning Star phase, and finally on 24 April once direct and increasing in brightness as a Morning Star. The three conjunctions may tell a story in your personal life or different phases of different tests, but in one way or another have likely corresponded with some sort of testing, limitation, or constraint in relationships or life direction. Combined with the economic crises and concerns in current events, there may also have been fears of financial or material lack or instability, feelings that can be especially acute in Taurus since the sign of the Bull has a powerful drive to cultivate stable material foundations. Whatever you have had to face across the three conjunctions of Venus and Saturn, make time to reflect upon how your desires and relational commitments have been honed and shaped, allowing you to release the inessential to focus on the essential. Whatever realizations have been gained about your desires can be planted into the fecund soil of the New Moon in Taurus so you may commit more fully to what you truly want in life.

The other major astrological storyline being laid to rest within the darkness of the Taurus New Moon involves the opposition between Mars in Leo with Pluto in Aquarius that will be exact on 26 April, one day before the lunation. Similar to the three conjunctions between Venus and Saturn, Mars has also been in the process of forming three oppositions with Pluto; in contrast, they go farther back in time to November 2024. Mars first formed an opposition while direct in Cancer with Pluto in Capricorn on 3 November, and then after Mars stationed retrograde on 6 December there was a second opposition between Mars retrograde in Leo with Pluto in Aquarius on 3 January 2025. Mars clashing with Pluto can bring up issues in personal power dynamics, yet since the Taurus New Moon will form just after their third and final opposition the lunation can help us claim a greater sense of empowerment concerning whatever personal or collective issues we have had to face. Whatever old personal structures, interests, and identities melted down during the Mars retrograde transit that began the year can now be reforged into more stable forms possessing greater integrity. The final opposition between Mars and Pluto was the final battle to face related to our long journey with Mars and so whatever life force has been catalyzed between them can feed into the growth of the new lunar cycle.

The pace of change in the year ahead will continue to accelerate, and so instead of grasping for old sources of security that are in various stages of dissolution due to the immense collective changes happening, it will be necessary to make contact with inner sources of fortitude that can help you nourish greater self-determination and transition into the emerging forms of support that will be taking shape. Like the cycles of nature and the Moon that wax and wane, expand and contract, generate and dissolve, we need to lay old desires to rest within the dark soil of Taurus and allow for death and change to have their way with us if we wish to truly connect with the vibrant growth that the New Moon in Taurus can offer.

Dionysus

Pluto will take on an increasingly intensified presence in the week following the lunation, as Pluto will station retrograde one week after the Taurus New Moon on 4 May at 3°49’ Aquarius. The stationing of Pluto will intensify the heat and pressure felt from the opposition between Mars and Pluto, and so make sure to make space for any needed recovery and restoration if internal or external conflicts have become overwhelming. Rather than impatiently insisting on solutions to personal dilemmas it will also be important to hold the tension of whatever seemingly paradoxical conflicts or choices we are facing, to allow for the mystery to work itself out and ultimately provide the solution we need. Pay attention to what emerges from your unconscious in the week following the Taurus New Moon as Pluto stations, as there will likely be meaningful synchronicities and other forms of guidance emerging to help you navigate forward.

Venus will add fuel to the blazing fire of Mars in Leo after leaving her exaltation of Pisces to enter the sign of the Ram on 30 April. As soon as Venus enters Aries she will begin applying to a close conjunction with Neptune in Aries that will become exact on 2 May. The conjunction between Venus and Neptune will be unusually important, as it will be the first conjunction between Venus and Neptune in Aries in our lifetimes and will increase our ability to come into relationship with the way things have been changing with Neptune in the fiery sign of the Ram. Venus will remain in the “retrograde shadow zone” of degrees in which she was previously retrograde until 15 May, a few days after the upcoming Scorpio Full Moon, and so the ways in which we will be integrating the all the personal changes that have been felt since Venus stationed retrograde on 1 March will be quickened and enflamed by Neptune in the fiery sign of Aries. Venus first formed a conjunction while moving direct as a bright Evening Star with Neptune in Pisces on 1 February and then again while retrograde in Pisces on 27 March, and so there is also likely a storyline related to Venus and Neptune that will reach a critical turning point when they unite for the final time in the beginning of May.

Venus will then form her third and final sextile aspect with Pluto in Aquarius on 6 May a couple of days after Pluto stations retrograde. The sextile aspect between Venus and Pluto is another storyline that has transpired across the recent months of Venus retrograde, with Venus first forming a sextile with Pluto on 7 February while direct and again on 21 March while retrograde. The contact between Venus and Pluto will amplify the potency of Pluto stationing, put us into closer contact with the primal force of new desires emerging from within. After separating from Pluto, Venus in the fiery home of Mars will pursue Mars in Leo, getting closer and closer to forming a fiery trine with Mars that will become exact by the end of the lunar cycle on 22 May. Venus and Mars both occupying fire signs during the forthcoming lunar cycle will provide ample fuel to set plans in motion and become more determined with whatever you need to assert, develop, or protect.

Hermes

With so much in the world changing, it’s not surprising that the star of Hermes will be in an important position to help us move our story into the next chapter, cross one threshold of transition into another, and find the meaning needing to be discovered while engaged in the process. Mercury in Aries is moving fast as a Morning Star heralding the rise of the Sun each morning, racing toward a supportive sextile aspect with Jupiter in Gemini on 5 May and a contemplative conjunction on 6 May with Chiron in Aries. With Jupiter on the final leg of its journey through Gemini, the receptive sextile between Mercury with Jupiter in the beginning of May will provide important meaning and correspond with significant turning points in whatever has been correlating with your experience of Jupiter in Gemini. Combined with the conjunction between Mercury and Chiron a day later on 6 May, it will be important to remain open to possibility, curious about whatever challenges are faced, focusing consciousness on being in-between states of transition and inhabiting the realm that opens up while on the road from one place to another.

Sometimes the place Chiron is transiting in our charts point to places that are tender or wounded, aspects of our identity that have been previously rejected or alienated, or even larger patterns of pain that can relate to intergenerational trauma or ancestral wounds. In these cases the aspects between Mercury with Jupiter and Chiron in the first week of May could activate difficult material that ultimately can lead to important reflections and deeper realization. It will likely be necessary to stay with the trouble or difficulty long enough so that you can come to terms with the deeper underlying issues. Ultimately the supportive sextile between Jupiter with Mercury can be helpful for finding your way through whatever winding paths you are traversing.

5 of Pentacles by Pamela Colman Smith

Taurus 1 Decan

The New Moon in Taurus is in the first decan of Taurus associated with the Five of Pentacles card illustrated above by Pamela Colman Smith. The Five of Pentacles is often associated with worry and fear over not having enough money or resources, and so is a fitting image for the great economic uncertainties that have been dominating current events. While the image of those in need left outside a religious institution speaks to spiritual hypocrisy, their presence in front of the stained glass window also suggests that resources can be found in both the realm of spirit as well as in charitable communities. Mercury rules the first face of Taurus, linking the commerce and spiritual mediation of Mercury with the fertile, earthy nature of the sign of the Bull. Mercury makes the connections we need for our livelihood, and in the first decan of Taurus we discover our capacity not only to gain enough resources for our own survival but to also contribute assistance to those in greater need so they are not left out in the cold.

Austin Coppock in his book on the decans 36 Faces ascribed the image of “The Plow” to the first face of Taurus, noting the “face is traditionally connected to all of the sciences necessary to draw forth fruit from the land.” Coppock stated “the power this decan grants is that of understanding how to create growth,” adding that we must also realize that “the mind, heart and body are all ripe fields, which offer abundance when cultivated.” Coppock further noted that the emphasis of this decan on using available resources to increase gain also brings up the shadow of fear that bleak times may arise if we disengage from constant planning and hard work. Yet ultimately Coppock concluded that “the true work of this decan is in the equilibriation of work and pleasure,” as there are also many sensual delights to be encountered in the first face of Taurus. The combination of Venus uniting with Saturn and Mars opposing Pluto in the week before the Taurus New Moon likely could have brought attention to work much more so than restful pleasure, and so it will be important to make restorative contact with sources of pleasure to avoid burnout and experience renewal.

The Hellenistic text 36 Airs ascribed Charis to the first decan of Taurus, linking the Charites of mythology to the charity we can find in the image of the Five of Pentacles card and the meaning of the first face of Taurus. The Charites are the same as the three Graces you are most likely familiar with, commonly known as Splendor, Mirth, and Good Cheer, though various traditions have additional names as well as numbers for these charming, fertile beings. In cult worship the Charites were associated with Apollo and were often depicted dancing with the Seasons and accompanying the dance of the Muses to the songs of Apollo. The presence of the fertile Charites with the lunation speaks to the importance of nourishing the inner agriculture of your mind and soul so you may more fully align with your own good graces and more confidently dance to the songs of your destiny. May you deepen into contact with the sacred ground of your inner sensations within the darkness of the Taurus New Moon, helping you remedy whatever has been imbalanced and more fully realize the relationships and purpose to devote yourself to in the season ahead.
