NORWAC 2023
May 25 – 29, 2023
I will be speaking as part of an exemplary gathering of astrologers at the 2023 Northwest Astrology Conference (NORWAC) that will take place from May 25 – 29, 2023 in the Seattle, Washington area. You can attend in-person or virtually. I will be giving two talks.
My first talk will take place on Saturday 27 May 2023 at 10:30 am and is entitled Far from Home: Inversions of Planets Opposing their Domicile.
“Planets occupying the zodiacal sign opposite their domicile (ex Venus in Scorpio) are as far away from their home sign as possible within the zodiac, a condition that became known as being in “detriment.” Full of tension and creative potential, planets occupying their opposite sign take on an inverted quality that can bring feelings of alienation yet also bring about the emergence of new ideas from counter-cultural perspectives. We’ll explore the complexity and nuances of these placements in natal charts.”
My second talk will take place on Sunday 28 May 2023 at 3:45 pm and is entitled The Moon in the Four Elemental Roots.
“The Moon experiences different affinities, sensations, associations, and other lunar qualities when placed in earth, water, air, or fire signs. We’ll dive deep into the symbolism of each of the four astrological elements and how they distinctly color the expression of the Moon in natal charts. We’ll also explore the way in which lunar phases modulate the expression of the Moon within each element, depending on if the Moon is in a waxing, full, or waning phase.”

I hope to see you there!
I will be presenting my webinar Solar Storytelling: the Sun in Secondary Progressions on Saturday 15 April 2023 for Kepler College at 10 am in Pacific daylight time.
It’s free for everyone. Click here to register.
Description:
“Secondary progressions are a symbolic timing technique that can help forecast future storylines while also deepening awareness of your personal story. Secondary progressions are based upon a day-for-a-year symbolism in which each day following your birth corresponds to a year, so that the astrology for nineteen days after your birth equals your secondary progressed chart when you are nineteen years old.
This webinar will introduce the concept of secondary progressions through the lens of the Sun, revealing how the movement of the Sun in secondary progressions marks important life transitions and evolutions in personality. We’ll explore how the Sun changing signs, houses, and aspects through secondary progressions will pinpoint pivotal turning points in your overall narrative, increasing understanding for past, present, and future chapters of your story. Learn how secondary progressions are one of the most powerful techniques in astrology for exploring major shifts in personal growth and evolution.”
The Light and Shadow of Mercury in Secondary Progressions
I will be presenting my webinar The Light and Shadow of Mercury in Secondary Progressions on Sunday 2 April 2023 for the ISAR Star Club at 12 pm in Pacific daylight time.
It’s free for ISAR members and otherwise $14.99. Click here to register.
Description:
“Tracking the shift between Mercury’s phases with the Sun in secondary progressions is a powerful technique for helping clients reflect upon their life story and envision the next chapter of their life. In this webinar we will explore the meaning of Mercury’s solar phases and how they can be applied within secondary progressions to demarcate vital periods of personal development. Numerous case examples will be used to show how to apply Mercury’s movement within secondary progressions to the natal chart. Special attention will be given to the meaning found when Mercury shifts between being direct and retrograde as well as between being visible and invisible in secondary progressions.”
Saturn in Pisces: Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea
I will be offering my webinar “Saturn in Pisces: Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea” for the Cosmic Intelligence Agency this upcoming Wednesday 29 March 2023 at 4 pm PDT / 7 pm EDT which is Thursday 30 March 2023 at 10 am AEDT.

Saturn’s entrance into Pisces on March 7, 2023 has brought a sea change in collective and personal events, as the star of Kronos has begun sharing the same mutable water as Neptune. Marking the end of the Saturn and Neptune cycle that began in 1989, Saturn will spend an extended period of time in close proximity with Neptune in Pisces before eventually forming an exact conjunction with Neptune in the first degree of Aries on February 20, 2026. This talk will explore the meaning of Saturn transiting Pisces as well as Saturn’s cyclical relationship with Neptune that has correlated with dissolution of old orders and the emergence of idealistic movements.
Gray will discuss the potential of Saturn sailing through the oceanic expanse of Pisces and what we may discover washed up on shore from its tides.

I’m giving a webinar on the 12th House for the ISAR Star Club on Sunday, July 3 at 12 pm Pacific / 3 pm Eastern time. Here’s the description:
Shadow Casting of the 12th House
The twelfth house has a difficult reputation in astrological lore. Known as the place of the bad daimon where Saturn finds joy, it has associations with solitude, loss, and suffering. Yet it is also a liminal place in between time and space, symbolized by the Sun’s rise at dawn cracking open the darkness of night with its radiant light. Like our ancestors who erected stones to cast the shadows of the rising sun, we may discover rich resources within the darkness of the twelfth house in spite of the difficulties inherent within its terrain. We’ll explore the depth of meaning to be found in the twelfth house in natal charts as well as timing techniques.

Secondary Progressions Course
I’m excited to announce a six week course on secondary progressions beginning on November 7 and running through December 12, 2020.
Secondary progressions are known as one of the most important cycles of personal development in astrology, especially in terms of exploring the trajectory of our life narrative and predicting key turning points in our story. In case you are unfamiliar, secondary progressions are based upon the symbolic correspondence between our experience of one solar day and one solar year. This is based upon the ancient concept of the part equaling the whole and how bringing awareness to the part can illuminate the whole.
With secondary progressions we are engaging a symbolic equivalence between our experience of a solar day with the Sun rising, culminating and setting with our experience of a solar year and the Sun moving through all of the signs of the zodiac along the ecliptic from our geocentric perspective. As a result, when calculating a secondary progressed chart for someone turning thirty years old, you are essentially casting a chart based upon thirty days after their birth.
Regarding our overall life story, tracking and reflecting upon secondary progressions can help with figuring out what part of someone’s life story they are in right now. From the vaster whole of our entire life narrative, we can come into deeper relationship with what part or chapter of the overall story we are in. As a result, secondary progressions can be potent for reflecting upon past experiences as well as helping you in writing the next chapter of your life.
The natal chart is a living symbol of the moment we are born into, yet it’s common for people to conceive of their natal chart as something static with fixed aspects between the planets. Rather than the frozen moment of our birth, secondary progressions tap us into not only the moment of birth but where that moment is moving within all of the cycles between planets. For example, you may be born with a waxing crescent Moon in your natal chart but through secondary progressions you will live through all of the phases of the Moon.
Considering secondary progressions is important because the nature of one’s present secondary progressions will significantly alter interpretation of transits and any other timing technique you are using. It also brings a different perspective from solely focusing on the natal chart, transits, and timing techniques.
In addition, since the lunar phases of the Moon and the solar phases of each planet are essential to pay attention to with secondary progressions, as an added bonus you will gain knowledge regarding the synodic cycle of each planet with the Sun through this course.
“Story Cycles: A Course in Secondary Progressions” will occur weekly on Saturdays from 10 am until 12 pm in Pacific standard time. I will cover a different aspect of secondary progressions each week in this two hour class through a live Zoom meeting that will be recorded for all participants to download, whether you can attend it live or not. There will be supplementary material given as well as homework assignments.
There will also be a one hour session on Tuesdays from 6 – 7 pm in which I will answer questions from course participants through a Zoom meeting. This session will also be recorded for all participants to download and view at your convenience.
Total cost: $300 (payment plans are possible: contact me at consultation@graycrawford.net to discuss options)
Course Schedule:

- Saturday, November 14 (10 am – 12 pm PST)
- The Moon in secondary progressions. We will cover the meaning of the Moon within secondary progressions, it’s timing, and the significance of it changing house and sign as well as element and modality. - Tuesday, November 24 (6 – 7 pm PST)
- Live question and answer session covering Mercury.
- Saturday, November 28 (10 am – 12 pm PST)

We will explore the synodic cycles of Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn and the significance of them stationing retrograde or direct by progression. We will spend more time on Mars than the planets beyond Mars due to Mars being more dynamic by secondary progression due to it moving faster than the planets beyond it in orbit.
- Tuesday, December 8 (6 – 7 pm PST)
- Final live question and answer session
- Saturday, December 12 (10 am – 12 pm PST)
- Final project presentations and final summary. This class will be an opportunity for participants who wish to present a final project about what they have learned regarding their life story through reflecting upon their experience of secondary progressions. Nightlight Astrology Spring Speaker Series
Saturday, May 16, 2020 at 1 pm EST
Planets in Fall and the Spirit of the Depths
I’m excited to announce I will be presenting as part of Nightlight Astrology’s Spring Speaker Series, which is free to attend and taking place online, on May 10th, 16th and 17th. My talk is entitled “Planets in Fall and the Spirit of the Depths” and will be all about the meaning to be found with planets in fall in natal charts. It will take place on Saturday, May 16 at 1 pm EST.
Description: The Greek term for a planet being in its fall has been translated as a low lying place, like being brought down into a depression in the ground. Planets in fall have also been associated with states of depression and depressing circumstances, in contrast to the ideal heights associated with planets in exaltation. We will explore the essential balance between planets in fall and exaltation, what it means to be born with a planet in fall in your natal chart, and imagine together how to work with the descent into depths we can experience with a planet in fall. What wisdom and self realization can we gather from the dark places that planets in fall bring us to?

Psyche & Eros: the Fall of Venus & Mercury
I’m excited to announce I will be speaking at the 2019 Northwest Astrological Conference to be held May 24 – 27, 2019 in Seattle, WA (well, technically at the Southcenter Doubletree Suites).
NORWAC always has a welcoming atmosphere and features many fantastic speakers at the 2019 gathering. Check the full schedule here.
I will be speaking Saturday, May 25 at 3:45 pm on “Psyche and Eros: the Fall of Venus and Mercury.” I will be using the “Psyche and Eros” story contained in the Hellenistic novel The Golden Ass by Apuleius to bring a more poetic, imaginative understanding to the meaning of “Fall” placements. Venus and Mercury form a polarity of exaltation and fall along the Pisces and Virgo axis, with Venus being exalted in Pisces and in fall in Virgo, and Mercury being exalted in Virgo and in fall in Pisces. Since Aphrodite and Eros are the mythic fish in the Pisces constellation, and the two main co-stars of Psyche in the story, the “Psyche and Eros” story will serve as a medium to deepen our understanding of what having Venus or Mercury in their “fall” can mean.
Description:
What meaning can be found in the fall of Venus in Virgo and Mercury in Pisces? This talk will imaginally explore the nuances of Venus and Mercury in their fall through the telling of the tale Psyche and Eros. Eros and Aphrodite are the fish in the Pisces constellation and Psyche’s co-stars in her underworld journey into wholeness through the daimon of love. We’ll dive into the challenges and gifts found in the “fallen” polarity of Virgo and Pisces.

Daimon: Guiding Star of Soul
September 14 & 15, 2018
Santa Fe, New Mexico
I will be presenting a workshop on the Guardian Daimon along with June Rose Trimbach for the NCGR chapter in Santa Fe, New Mexico on the weekend of September 14 and 15, 2018. For a link to the event page for the Santa Fe NCGR chapter, click here
Description:
In this two-day workshop we will be learning about the ancient spiritual concept of the guardian daimon, also known as the guardian angel or guiding star. The guardian daimon watches over a life and guides us to fulfill our life purpose. In the Friday night lecture we will learn about the rich background of the daimon from antiquity to modern times, and consider why it is meaningful in astrology.
The Saturday workshop will begin with an in-depth look at some of our favorite techniques for exploring the daimon in a natal chart, drawing upon an ancient lineage of astrological thought. We will also discuss how you can encounter the guardian daimon directly through theurgy, which can be translated as ‘gods working through you’. We will open ourselves to the experience of theurgy through a ceremony of guided visualization with intention to commune with one’s daimon. There will be plenty of time to share, reflect and explore these ideas within your own chart. Please bring a copy of your natal chart, a notebook, non-messy art supplies. It is also optional to bring bio-degradable offerings for the spirits (flowers, grains, stones, natural beads, simple food without strong odor, etc).
United Astrology Conference
May 24 – 29, 2018
I will be speaking at the United Astrology Conference in May 2018 which will be held in Chicago, Illinois in the USA. I’m honored to be part of an extraordinary group of astrologers who will be presenting a wide ranging selection of astrology topics. It will be the biggest astrological event to be held in the next few years, and the most exciting! For more information including how to order copies of the audio recordings please visit the website:
I will be presenting two talks. The first is entitled “The Light and Shadow of Mercury in the Secondary Progressed Chart” and will be taking place on Friday, May 25 at 11 am. This talk is about Mercury in the Secondary Progressed chart, and will be focused on teaching the meaning found within the secondary progressed synodic cycle of Mercury, an aspect of interpreting progressed charts that brings in a vital element in addition to other aspects such as focusing upon the progressed lunation phase. Description:
The changeable nature of Mercury is found in its synodic cycle and its shifts between being direct and retrograde. The meaning of Mercury’s cycles will be applied to the secondary progressed chart, where Mercury’s movement across a lifetime demarcates vital periods of personal development. Gray will explain how to interpret the shift of progressed Mercury from being direct to retrograde and vice versa, and what to pay attention to in relation to the natal chart.
The second talk will be taking place on Saturday, May 26 at 9 am. It is all about the Uranus opposition we experience in midlife, and is entitled “Radical Awakening: Uranus Opposition.” Description:
The Uranus opposition that occurs as we enter the mid-life of our forties has a deservedly dramatic reputation. Known as a lightning strike of revelation within cycles of personal development, it brings shakeups that upend the previous status quo of our life. This talk will explore ways to respond to the liberating impulses that arise in correspondence, as well as its connection to transits involving Jupiter, Saturn, Neptune, and Pluto that lead into it.
If you are coming to UAC, I hope to see you there. Make sure to come up and say hello. It would be great to meet any of you who will be there in person!
FOUNDATIONS OF ASTROLOGY COURSE
Co-taught by Gray Crawford and June Rose Trimbach
Gray Crawford and June Rose Trimbach are excited to announce an interactive webinar course uncovering the building blocks of the art of astrology. If you’re at the beginning stages of learning astrology or at a more advanced stage and looking to fill any gaps in your knowledge, this class will give you a firm understanding of the symmetry and power in the foundations. If you choose to participate, we will be looking at the natal charts of individuals in the class, so it’s also a great opportunity to deepen understanding of your own chart.
June Rose and Gray share a passion for traditional as well as modern astrological technique. The class will serve as a bridge between modern and traditional astrology and clarify misconceptions about each perspective. June Rose and Gray both come from astrological lineages that inquire about the soul and its relationship to the material world. When appropriate we may explore astrology as a spiritual discipline.
Weekly classes will be held on Sundays from January 21 through April 8, 2018 with no classes held the weekends of February 18 and March 25. Classes will begin at 1:00 pm(Pacific standard time) and last for two hours. DAIMON: GUIDING SPIRIT OF THE NATIVITY
Sunday 29 October 2017
1:00 – 5:00 PM
Portland School of Astrology
I’m excited to announce I will be co-teaching an interactive workshop with June Rose Trimbach on the daimon in astrology at the Portland School of Astrology on October 29. In this class we will be working with the Greek idea of a Daimon, which was incorporated into Hellenistic astrology by Porphyry in the late 3rd Century. There is text from the ancient philosopher Heraclitus that has been translated as “Character for a human is his Daimon,” in addition to also being translated as “Character is destiny,” “A man’s character is his fate,” “A man’s individuality is his daimon,” and “A man’s character is the immortal and potentially divine part of him.” Using Dorian Greenbaum’s thesis The Daimon in Hellenistic Astrology: Origins and Influence as guide, we will explore the Daimon as a philosophical and spiritual concept. Then we will learn Porphyry’s technique to locate the Daimon as a guiding planet in the natal chart of an individual. We will all be working intimately with our own charts to find who this planet is and get to know them better, including through guided meditation. Using the imagery or feelings we receive from this experience, we will create devotional art pieces to enhance our connection with our personal Daimons.
While the technical astrology of the workshop is well-suited for intermediate and advanced students, novices and beginners will be helped along to locate their guardian planet and the rest of the class will be intuition. Please bring a copy of your natal chart to class. Art supplies will be provided, and participants are encouraged to bring their own additional art supplies they will want to use.

Friday 15 September & Saturday 16 September
On the weekend of September 15 and 16, I will be presenting a talk and workshop for the Oregon Astrology Association about relationships and astrology. On Friday 15 September I will be giving a talk on relational astrology in general, and then on Saturday 16 September I will be giving a workshop focused upon understanding evolving relational dynamics through the secondary progressed chart.
Our Astrological Narratives in Relationship
Understanding relationship dynamics is one of the primary reasons people delve deeper into astrology. Whether we desire to heal our own relationships or want to help clients gain insight into their relationships, a fundamental skill is discerning the relational narratives found in the natal chart. Once we become aware of the relationship story found in our birth chart, we arrive at a deeper understanding for why patterns continue to resurface in relationships and why certain types of partners appear in our lives. In this talk Gray Crawford will share methods for how to distill the diverse elements of astrology charts into a coherent relationship story that reveals why we have been engaging in the types of relationships we have been, as well as how our astrological narrative continues to evolve as our relationships change. This talk will also reflect upon how to effectively use synastry and composite techniques in astrology.
Opening to the Other – Relationships in Progression
The secondary progressed chart is a powerful astrology technique that penetrates into the evolving quality of the natal chart across time. We know that as time passes so do our desires for relationship transform. This workshop will explore how changes in our secondary progressed chart reveal insight into how we are opening to the relationships of our life in new ways. This workshop will both instruct as well as give space for participants to actively gain deeper understanding into how planets shifting signs and houses through progressions reflect the changes we experience in all of our diverse relationships. We will also explore how the changes in the interpersonal dynamics within long-term relationships can be seen in the interplay between the changes in the progressed charts of each partner.
You can order tickets from the Oregon Astrological Association website

I will be one of the speakers at the Oregon Astrological Association’s Annual Astro Faire taking place on Saturday, May 20. There will be two other speakers- Mark Dodich speaking about the lunar nodes shifting into Aquarius and Leo, and Andrea Gehrz speaking about remediation ideas to deal with the major transits of the coming year. At the end there will be a panel discussion among the three of us moderated by astrologer Melanie Gurley about the transits in the year ahead.
I will be giving the following talk about the transit of Jupiter and Uranus in the year ahead:
The opposition between Jupiter and Uranus we experience throughout 2017 has consistently brought liberating breakthroughs amid the death of old forms in world history. The shattering and dissolution of old paradigms is especially resonant this year, as the Jupiter and Uranus opposition is occurring within waning cycles of release between Jupiter and Saturn with Neptune and Pluto. We will explore historical and current correlations with the Jupiter and Uranus cycle, including their current placements in Libra and Aries as well as the eventual shift of Jupiter into Scorpio and Uranus into Taurus in the year ahead.

Description:
Mercury Retrograde periods are not a time to fear. Rather they offer us unique opportunities for personal growth. Discover the alternate realm of perception Mercury Retrograde provides us for uncovering the essential aspects of the Self. Explore the meaning of the swiftly moving planet of mental connections and discernment under Olympia astrologer Gray Crawford. Gray will dispel popular misconceptions of Mercury Retrograde to reveal how Mercury can mutate into its subterranean role as a Guide of Souls during its retrograde motion.
The Mercury retrograde in December will begin with a conjunction to Pluto, and will delve back all the way to the end of Sagittarius where the star of Hermes will station direct in the home of Jupiter. This will be a powerful Mercury retrograde phase and we will create space and time in class to discuss its potential impact on class participants.
Opening to the Other:
Relationships in Progressions
Saturday 12 November 2016
2 – 5 pm
Portland School of Astrology
Opening to the Other: Relationships in Progressions:
The secondary progressed chart is a powerful astrology technique that penetrates into the evolving quality of the natal chart across time. We know that as time passes so do our desires for relationship transform. The secondary progressed chart is one way to explore the correlations between the changes of our astrology with the changes of our relationships. For example, while one may be born with the Sun in Pisces and Venus in Aries, through the changes of the progressed chart you will become a Taurus Sun and Gemini Venus and open to a different realm of relationship as a result.
In this class Gray Crawford will teach students how to interpret the secondary progressed chart in terms of relationship, not only romantic relationships but collaborative relationships of all sorts. We will investigate what aspects of the secondary progressed chart can bring insight into our evolving desires for relationship and who or what we are attracting. We will also explore how the changes in the interpersonal dynamics within a relationship that lasts for many years can be seen in the interplay between the changes in the progressed charts of each partner.
Cost is $25 dollars, and work trade is available if you contact the Portland School of Astrology. Click on the link below for complete information about this class:

Radio Interview on Mercury & Gemini
Astrology: The Theory of Everything
I am excited to share an interview I did with astrologer Dr. Mary Jo Wevers about the sign of Gemini and its ruler Mercury on her radio show “Astrology: The Theory of Everything.” We spend a lot of time speaking about Mercury retrograde, and this show was in fact recorded right before Mercury stationed retrograde in Taurus on April 27, 2016.
Click the link below to listen:
During the show I mentioned that when Mercury transited the Sun at its Inferior Conjunction it was conjoining its Heliocentric North Node. I learned this information from Dane Rudhyar and other astrologers, and astrologer Gary Caton corrected me (after this interview was recorded) by pointing out that if you actually look at the orbit of Mercury you can see that its Heliocentric South Node is actually Taurus. So, point being that when Mercury conjoined the Sun in May it was conjunct its Heliocentric South Node in Taurus, not its North Node.

Mercury Retrograde Guidance
On Thursday 12 May 2016 at 7 pm, I will be presenting a talk at New Renaissance Bookshop in Portland, Oregon on the meaning and experience of Mercury Retrograde in astrology. The cost will be $15. New Renaissance Bookshop is located at 1338 NW 23rd Avenue, Portland, Oregon 97210.
Mercury Retrograde is not a time to fear, but instead presents unique opportunities for growth. This talk will dispel popular misconceptions regarding Mercury Retrograde and illuminate how to effectively navigate the liminal space opened within it. The changeable, protean nature of Mercury will be explored, revealing how Mercury mutates symbolically into its chthonic role of a Guide of Souls during its retrograde. Correspondingly, Mercury Retrograde offers an alternate realm of perception that can facilitate the uncovering of essential aspects of Self.
Time will also be spent investigating the astrological significance of the three Mercury retrogrades during 2016 all occurring in Earth signs with significant aspects in transit to Mars, and what this can mean personally for you.
Wednesday Evening Astrology Classes
Beginning June 24 and extending through July 29, 2015, I will be teaching a weekly Astrology Class on Wednesday evening from 7:30 – 9:00 pm at Firefly Yoga, located at 421 Water Street in downtown Olympia, Washington. Firefly Yoga is located next door to Tradition’s Cafe & World Folk Art. Cost will be sliding scale from $10 – $20 for each class.
Each week’s class will cover an introductory astrological topic and focus primarily on one planet each week in the following order:
June 24, 2015: Saturn
July 1, 2015: Jupiter
July 8, 2015: Mars
July 15, 2015: Venus
July 22, 2015: Mercury
July 29, 2015: Venus Retrograde
We will discuss the astrological meaning of the planetary topic in class, and then explore it’s implication by house and aspects in the birth chart. We will also discuss the meaning of the planet by transit, and explore how the planet in its current transit is impacting the birth chart of class participants. For example, in the first class on Saturn we will delve into the meaning of Saturn having moved retrograde back into Scorpio for a final time, and the impact this can make in the charts of class participants. In the final class on Venus retrograde, we will explore the meaning of Venus retrograde within the cycle of Venus with the Sun, and look at the impact the Venus retrograde beginning at the end of July will have in the charts of class participants. If interested in attending, please email your birth chart information to consultation@graycrawford.net
