2023 Astrology Forecast

2023 Astrology Forecast

I recently joined Melissa LaFara on her Energetic Principles Podcast to talk about the astrology of 2023. You can watch the YouTube video here:

With Saturn entering Pisces, Pluto entering Aquarius for the first time, Jupiter moving from Aries into Taurus, and the lunar nodes shifting from Scorpio and Taurus into Libra and Aries, we can expect many new stories to emerge in the year ahead that will offer opportunities to make significant progress on the goals and work we have been developing during the past few years of extraordinary collective change. The astrological alignments of 2020 aligned with the world changing in unprecedented ways, and were followed by two years of immense astrological volatility in 2021 and 2022 that were dominated by the friction of Saturn and Uranus clashing in a square aspect. While the world will continue to go through a period of great volatility that will extend through the decade of the 2020s, I feel that 2023 offers a quality of time that can help with recovery and adjustment to the ways in which the world has been changing while also offering increased opportunities to be creatively productive.

Melissa and I spend most of the first hour giving an overview of the year’s biggest transits, followed by a breakdown of each quarter of the year. Altogether it is three hours and forty-five minutes long, with a thorough overview given for each section of 2023.

There are timestamps in the YouTube video for the following:

00:07:53 Overview

00:55:44 Capricorn Solstice / Aquarius / Pisces Seasons

01:36:47 Aries Equinox / Taurus / Gemini Seasons

02:33:22 Cancer Solstice / Leo / Virgo Seasons

03:00:04 Libra Equinox / Scorpio / Sagittarius

03:25:30 Capricorn Solstice & Final Days Of The Year

Astrology of 2022 (Part Two)

I recently joined Melissa LaFara on her Energetic Principles Podcast to discuss the astrology for the second half of 2022, from the Cancer Solstice until the the end of the year. We previously did an episode about the astrology for all of 2022 last December (you can watch here), but there was so much to talk about during he first half of the year we had to move quickly through the second half of the year due to time. We thoroughly cover the astrology for the rest of 2022 in this episode, moving through the second half of the year month by month, lunation by lunation. I hope you enjoy it!

2022 Astrology Forecast

I was recently interviewed by Melissa LaFara on her Energetic Principles Podcast giving an astrological forecast for 2022. There are a lot of big themes for the year that we discussed including the lunar nodes changing to Scorpio and Taurus, eclipses in Taurus and Scorpio amplifying the tension between Saturn and Uranus, Uranus conjunct the North Node in Taurus, Jupiter conjunct Neptune in Pisces, and much more. We also give a more detailed overview month to month.

Here is a link to watch it on YouTube which is helpful to see a visual of the astrology transits we discuss:

Mercury Retrograde in 2021

Mercury air triplicity

Astrology glyphs by Bradley Naragon

Mercury Retrograde in 2021

I recently joined astrologer Stormie Grace on her astrology show to talk about the significance of the three Mercury retrograde periods in 2021. Mercury will be retrograde in air signs in 2021 and as a result will help facilitate our transition into the new era of air signified by the recent conjunction between Jupiter and Saturn in Aquarius. In addition, Mercury retrograde in Aquarius in February and Mercury retrograde in June will also be happening during the first two exact square aspects formed between Saturn and Uranus. As a result, the Mercury retrograde periods will also be directly involved in our adjustment to the sudden changes and rupturing that will correlate with Saturn in square with Uranus during 2021. We talk about the meaning of Mercury and Mercury retrograde in general, and then get into the details regarding each of the three periods of Mercury retrograde next year.

2021 Astrology Forecast

As 2020 draws to a close and we are on the precipice of turning the calendar into the year 2021, I am delighted to share a recent podcast interview I had with Melissa LaFara on her Energetic Principles podcast in which we forecasted the astrology of the entire year ahead. In the northern hemisphere where I live, we are in the holy days of darkness and returning light, with the light of the Sun slowly increasing each day. Similarly, the astrology of 2021 offers a beacon of hope guiding us out of a very difficult year. Melissa and I talked about calling this 2021 forecast episode “Following the Guiding Star Forward,” because although there is a lot of volatile and difficult astrology involved in the year ahead it is also mixed in with aspects that will promote innovative and visionary mediation, problem solving, and growth. You can listen to the soundcloud audio version of the podcast here:

There is also a video, youtube version of the podcast episode you can watch here, that also includes visuals of some of the mundane astrology charts we discuss:

The episode begins with a broad overview of 2021 astrology – such as Saturn square Uranus, the continuation of the Gemini and Sagittarius eclipses, and all three Mercury retrograde periods occurring in the air triplicity. We then go quarter by quarter – Solstice to Equinox – pointing out the hotspot areas of the year and potential ways to navigate them in the collective and personal spheres. It’s a long episode so you can break up listening to it into sections for each part of the year. Here is a timestamp breakdown for each section of the episode:

Overview 00:00
Capricorn Solstice Quarter – 46 min
Aries Equinox Quarter – 1 hr 24 min
Cancer Solstice Quarter – 2 hrs 19 min
Libra Equinox Quarter – 2 hrs 49 min

2020 Astrology Recap & Forecast: Energetic Principles Podcast

FB_IMG_1596489420836.jpg

I am pleased to share a recent conversation I had with Melissa LaFara on her Energetic Principles Podcast you can listen to here:

I previously talked to Mel in December 2019 in a forecast episode about the entire year of 2020. Mel invited me back to discuss what we predicted in comparison to what actually happened, and then spending the rest of the time looking forward through the rest of the year knowing what we know now.

We primarily spent time discussing the period of Mars activating its retrograde phase between now and November. I hope our conversation helps give you some ideas for how to prepare for this upcoming period featuring an extreme intensification of all things Mars. The Aquarius Full Moon yesterday demarcated the beginning of things heating up, as Mars has now formed its first square with Jupiter and is on its way toward Pluto and Saturn.

If you would like to go back and listen to the epic three hour forecast episode I did with Mel in December 2019, you can listen to it here:

If you haven’t listened to Mel’s podcast before I encourage you to look through her growing catalogue of past episodes as she has brought many interesting and experienced astrologers on to her podcast. She also has her own Patreon you can support her through.

Planetary Nodes of Jupiter, Saturn, & Pluto on The Basement Astrologers Podcast

Ouroboros_1

from De Lapide Philosophico (1625) by Lucas Jennis

The Basement Astrologers Podcast:

Planetary Nodes of Jupiter, Saturn, & Pluto

I had the pleasure of recently appearing on The Basement Astrologers Podcast with Kipp Dubow, an astrologer who lives not too far from me along the Salish Sea in Tacoma, Washington.  We talked about the meaning of the planetary nodes by way of first exploring the meaning of the lunar nodes. We then talk about the significance of Jupiter, Pluto, and Saturn all beginning and ending cycles together in 2020 while also forming conjunctions with their own South Nodes. Listen to the episode here:

https://anchor.fm/kipptacomaastrology/episodes/Gray-Crawford—Planetary-Nodes—2020-efs278

A couple corrections: for some reason I misidentified my own lunar nodes when explaining how to figure out if a planet is at the northern or southern bending. My South Node is in Gemini and North Node is in Sagittarius, which is why my Mercury is at the northern bending of my lunar nodes.

At another point when talking about the opposition between Saturn in Virgo and Uranus in Pisces during the economic crisis in 2008 I accurately said that Saturn in Virgo was at the northern bending of the nodes of Uranus. I then said Uranus was near its own south node but I meant that Uranus was also near the southern bending of its own nodes.

I hope this serves as a general introduction to help get you started thinking about the planetary nodes and the significance of planets conjoining one of their own nodes as well as being at the bendings of their nodes.

For additional info about how to understand the planetary nodes, I previously wrote an article on the planetary nodes of Neptune that you can read here:

Pallas Athena, Jupiter, & Pluto on the Kosmic Tonic Podcast

49.97.118

Pallas Athena by Marcantonio Raimondi (ca. 1520–1527)

Pallas Athena & the Jupiter Pluto Conjunctions

I was recently interviewed on the Kosmic Tonic Podcast about the meaning of the asteroid Pallas Athena conjoining Jupiter and Pluto during all three times that Jupiter and Pluto unite together in 2020. I met Eliza and Jasmine at UAC (United Astrology Conference) in 2018 and Kestrel at NORWAC (Northwest Astrology Conference) in 2019 and felt immediate connection with their astrological approaches, so it was wonderful to be able to have a conversation with them on their podcast.

You can listen to the podcast episode here or in the link included in the “Links” page on my website.

Themes include: Athena’s lesser-known Mom, Metis – Olympian ancestral patterns of children-swallowing – the difference between Ares and Athena as gods of war – systems crumbling – dominion – justice – and more!

I referenced the following quotes from Greek Religion by Walter Burkert:

“More than any other diety Athena is always near her proteges – ‘Goddess of Nearness’ is how Walter F. Otto described her. Wherever difficulties disappear and the impossible becomes possible, Athena is at hand, but her presence does not detract from the achievement of the other: ‘In league with Athena set your own hand to work,’ says the proverb.”

“Her most characteristic manifestation is to Achilles: as he grasps for his sword in his quarrel with Agamemnon, Athena stands behind him and catches him by the hair; to the others she remains invisible, but Achilles recognizes the goddess ‘in amazement’; her eyes shine terribly. She counsels him to check his rage, lightly inserting the words, ‘if you will follow me,’ and Achilles obeys without question. It has often been discussed how a psychological process of self-control is here anatomized and presented as divine intervention. Athena’s shining eyes make a moment of lucid prudence in the darkening quarrel.”

Stargazer Podcast conversation on Planets in Fall

STARGAZER-SIDEBAR-ART-2-2-scaled

I’m happy to share a conversation I had recently with Rachel of Aeolian Heart Astrology who recently began her own podcast called the Stargazer Podcast. If you haven’t already noticed Rachel’s writing previously I suggest checking it out at https://aeolianheart.com as well as the benefits you can receive by joining her Patreon.  I’ve read Rachel’s writing for many years and always enjoy her creative and imaginative perspective, so it was a delight to have the chance to speak with her.

We spent most of our time talking about the nuances planets in fall compared with planets in exaltation, including if the ruling planet of your ascendant is in its fall, which is the case with both Rachel and myself. We also spend extra time on how we can reimagine working with Jupiter in its fall of Capricorn in transit, including through the mythopoetic form of the divine Pan.

You can listen to our conversation here:

Chiron on the Radiant Astrology Podcast

Gray-podcast-Chiron

I recently spoke with Christina Caudill on her Radiant Astrology Podcast about Chiron in Aries, Chiron’s role in astrology bridging the realms of Saturn with the realms beyond Uranus, and what we can learn from the mythology of Chiron. We talked on the day that the Sun in Aries was conjoining Chiron exactly, with both Chiron and the Sun forming a square aspect with the transiting lunar nodes. We discuss the connection between Chiron and what’s been happening with the COVID 19 pandemic.

Here is a link to the podcast:

2020 Astrological Forecast on the Energetic Principles Podcast

I joined Melissa LaFara on her Energetic Principles Podcast for a thorough discussion of the astrology happening in 2020. We discuss each quarter of the year, from solstice to equinox, equinox to solstice in just under three hours. This will hopefully help you prepare for the year ahead, and can also serve as an episode to come back to later in the year to listen to again as we move through each quarter of the year. The astrology of 2020 is the most impactful we have had in over a decade, making it a dramatic initiation into a new decade.

Exploring Soul on the Energetic Principles Podcast

Exploring Soul in Astrology

I was recently interviewed by astrologer Melissa LaFara on her Energetic Principles Podcast. We talked about the ineffable topic of exploring soul in astrology, including what we mean by soul, the impact of Carl Jung and James Hillman’s work on astrology,  and ways to relate with difficult placements and challenging configurations in natal astrology through a soul perspective. I enjoyed our conversation and hope you do too!

Mel has a weekly podcast that begins with an interpretation of the coming week’s astrology: our talk begins around the 28 minute mark of the episode, and she included a marker in the soundcloud for the beginning of our interview for your convenience.

Legacy of “Cosmos and Psyche” by Rick Tarnas on the Celestial Vibes podcast

Cosmos and Psyche:

The Legacy of Richard Tarnas

I was interviewed by Aswin Balaji with Celestial Vibes Magazine on the significance and legacy of Cosmos and Psyche by Richard Tarnas. In part we talk about his approach to archetypes and synchronicity in astrology and tracking historical patterns in connection with planetary alignments. We also talk about his conception of the modern self’s development that experienced a dawn with the Copernican revolution, led into the disenchantment of the cosmos, and then experienced the descent of its sunset with the Depth Psychology revolution at the turn of the 20th Century that decentered the conscious self as the center of the inner universe and unveiled the vastness of the unknown realm of the unconscious.

Planets in Fall on the Liminal Light Podcast

Mythopoetry of Planets in Fall

Planets in Fall arranged in the places of the Thema Mundi

I recently joined Chris Reppucci on his Liminal Light Podcast to discuss planets in fall and how we might think about them and where we might look to find stories that help us in better understanding their condition.

I gave a talk at the NORWAC astrology conference in May 2019 exploring the fall of Venus in Virgo and Mercury in Pisces through the telling of the Psyche and Eros story found in the Hellenistic novel The Golden Ass by Apuleius. Chris was inspired to read The Golden Ass after hearing my lecture and so we spend a good amount of time discussing the novel by Apuleius, as well as Psyche and Eros, mystery traditions, initiatory experiences, magical procedures, the underworld, the celebration of life, the Daimon, fate, and fortune.

I make a lot of references to the placement of planets in fall in the Thema Mundi, the legendary birth chart of the universe which is Cancer rising and has the domicile and exaltation schemes of essential dignity embedded in it. If you are unfamiliar with the concept you can reflect upon the image I have inserted at the top of this post when listening to our discussion, as it shows the planets in fall arranged in accordance with the Thema Mundi.

We didn’t make time to fully explore the Psyche and Eros story in relation to planets in fall during our talk, so if you are interested in hearing my approach to Psyche and Eros in my talk from NORWAC you can purchase it through my store page for $13. I will send you a MP3 recording as well as the slides.
